Biodiesel, Alternative to Diesel Fuel

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that can be burned in a diesel engine. Biodiesel is usually made from the oil extracted from a variety of plants, such as peanuts or soybeans and can also be made from animal fats. However, these oils need treatment before they can be used in a diesel engine.  Biodiesel is an interesting alternative to diesel and can be used at 100 percent strength or even blended with petroleum-based diesel fuel. This alternative to diesel can be used in diesel engines without any modification to the engine. The fact that it is biodegradable and non-toxic makes it the perfect choice for the green conscious individual.

Unfortunately, one of the main drawbacks to biodiesel is that it is not widely available yet. And I say yet because I believe that will be changing rather quickly as the race to explore other alternatives to the high cost of diesel is picking up speed. It is also interesting that Biodiesel, the alternative to diesel fuel can be made at home by just about anyone. No need for a degree in rocket science or chemistry is necessary. In fact with the proper inexpensive equipment and the right instructions we could all cook up a batch with little danger to our loved ones or ourselves. Assuming we follow the safety guidelines in the instruction manuel that comes with our Biodiesel Processor.

Biodiesel is a cleaner-burning alternative diesel fuel made from natural, renewable sources like new and used vegetable oils and animal fats. The vegetable oil or animal fat must first go through a process called transesterification before being used. Transesterification is the process of using either ethanol or methanol in the presence of a catalyst to chemically break the molecule of an oil or fat into an ester and glycerol. This is simply done with a Biodiesel Processor and a biodiesel wash. It is possible to make enough biodiesel for a months worth of driving in just a few hours of work in your garage or shed. And this great alternative to diesel fuel can be made for about $1.00 per gallon if you make it yourself.

Regardless, whether you are interested in helping to save our planet and air quality or attempting to save about $4.00 per gallon on fuel costs, it will pay you to check out Biodiesel, the alternative to diesel fuel.
